FIREFIGHTER RECRUITMENT

The Duncan Valley Rural Fire District is currently seeking qualified candidates to join our outstanding team of firefighters.  There are currently 4 open positions.  

The Duncan Valley Rural Fire District was established in 1974 with the mission to provide Fire and Rescue services to the residents in the Duncan Valley.  We currently protect approx 50 sq. miles within our district boundary and an additional 500 sq. miles of area outside our jurisdictional boundaries for automatic and mutual aid.  We currently operate from two fire stations with a fleet of 3 fire engines, 2 brush engines and 2 water tenders.  We also provide non-transport emergency medical care as certified EMT’s and Paramedics to assist local Emergency Medical Services.

Primary Function

Respond to fire, medical and other emergent and non-emergent alarms. Individuals in this position often perform under conditions which require strenuous physical exertion. Major elements of both positions include participation in supervised drills and training in firefighting and EMS or First Aid (dependent on credentials) skills. Other elements include routine maintenance of equipment and apparatus, routine care of buildings and grounds, as well as public education activities. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass Criminal Background Check 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Arizona State Certified Fire Fighter I and II certification or equivalent certification from IFSAC, or ProBoard with the ability to obtain reciprocity with the Arizona Center for Fire Service Excellence
  • Current Healthcare Provider level CPR Certified by American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Arizona state EMT or Paramedic certification by AZ Department of Health Services
  • Basic Wildland Firefighter (FFT-2) Certification
  • Hazardous Materials First Responder – Operations Level Certification

Safety Sensitive: This job is designated by DVRFD as a safety-sensitive position because it includes tasks or duties that DVRFD, in good faith, believes could affect the safety or health of the employee performing the task or others (ARS 23-493). An applicant or incumbent may be disqualified, disciplined, or terminated, if they are determined to be positive for marijuana or its metabolites, regardless of cardholder status. 

Selection process may consist of: Application screening, skills assessment, credibility assessment, and interview(s).
