At the Asheville Fire  Department we take our responsibilities seriously.  The City of Asheville and the surrounding areas are protected by a well trained, dedicated and committed group of  emergency service personnel, who are prepared to respond with an all-hazard incident approach.

We currently have 12 fire stations that are strategically placed throughout our city.  We are in the process of building our 13th station, providing for improved service delivery to our citizens.  We answer a wide range of calls for service, ranging from car seat installation, motor vehicle accidents, water emergencies, technical rescues as well as structure fires.  In addition our agency is  a state response resource, in which we cover the 20 most western counties for hazardous material incident response as well as a type 1 swift-water team.  Our Community Risk Reduction and Fire and Life Safety Programs are second to none in providing safety to our businesses and their customers.  We pride ourselves on continuous improvement and take every opportunity to be a better organization than we were the day before.

AFD is an organization that feels like a family.  In return for your willingness to serve we offer many areas of support for you and your family.

Firefighters are a special group who have a heart and desire to serve others on what could be their worst day.  It takes mental fortitude and the ability to push yourself beyond what you thought possible.

If you have the desire and are willing to answer the call to serve the citizens and visitors of The City of Asheville, you can start the process by contacting us at afdhire@ashevillenc.gov.
