2010 Monthly Suggestions

Hopefully some of this information will assist in your diversity outreach efforts.

We are asking each Firefighter Diversity Recruitment Council member to take part in the following:

Feb

  • Week 1 - Inform your Fire Chief of the March 18th and 19th Firefighter Diversity Recruitment Council 3rd Annual Conference - San Jose, CA - visit our events page for additional information
  • Week 2 - Invite two other fire departments in your state to join the FDRC
  • Week 3 - Submit a short word document as it relates to your department with new and helpful "Recruitment" ideas
  • Week 4 - If you have not done so go to www.Firefightersabcs.com select log in and update your company information.  If you have not updated your information you are not able to use your user tools on the site.
  • Week 4 - Share with your entire organiztion that your organization is a member of the FDRC - seek suggestions on recruitment from them
  • Add your FDRC link to the links page on your site
  • Start a monthly log as it relates to recruitment and diversity in your organization.  Create a report and share with your senior staff each month

Mar

  • Week 1 - Submit a short word document as it relates to your recruitment and diversity goals for 2010

Apr

  • Contact at least two high schools in your county and share the National Recruit Database with their Career Staff

May

  • Meet with at least three diverse community organizations and share the D.R.I.V.E. Program with them. "Diversity Recruitment Injects Valued Employees Program"

Jun

  • Contact at least one fire department located on Native Land and invite them to join the FDRC at no cost
  • They can simply email their membership request to:

Jul

  • Submit the name and web site of at least four colleges that offer fire science programs near your community email to info@firefightersabcs.com and they will be posted on our site

Aug

  • Review your deparmtnets diversity recruitment goals for 2011
  • If you don't have any - time to start working on them

Sep

  • Share the FDRC with three fire departments outside your county

Oct

  • Visit two high schools and share the National Recruit Database with their career staff

Nov

  • Review your department web site - does it depict diversity in terms of photos as well as other items

Dec

  • Enjoy the holiday season and plan to attend the 2011 March Firefighter Diversity Recruitment Conference - San Jose - CA

Each month

  • Submit at least one idea of how to increase diversity within the fire service to info@firefightersabcs.com and we will share with your other Council members
  • Target at least ten high school girls and 10 post high school young women and share the National Recruit Database as well as a career in the fire service with them

Lasty

  • Recruitment does not start a month prior to your testing process!
